Mike Tomlin just said what a lot of Steelers fans wanted to hear about Aaron Rodgers after making his television debut on NBC

Mike Tomlin spoke for the first time at his new job, and while it was short, there was a lot of good information, including what he thinks happens next with Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers.

Mike Tomlin has only been gone a few months, but he’s already back in the limelight and dropping key information for Pittsburgh Steelers fans. In a promo during NBA on NBC’s postseason coverage, the network introduced Mike Tomlin and announced that he, along with the rest of the crew, will be on the road every week for Football Night in America.

But what matters for Steelers fans is what Tomlin said about his decision to step down, and what he thinks will happen at quarterback for the Steelers.

Why Mike Tomlin stepped down from the Steelers HC position

“We didn’t have a lot of success in the playoffs in recent years. Guys like Cam Heyward and T.J. Watt and [Chris] Boswell that I thought were worthy of the excitement and optimism associated with new leadership,” said Tomlin on NBC.

He also added that it was not a sudden or rash decision, rather one that had been building for some time. You could see in his final presser that he was tired. Not sleepy tired cause he was up gameplanning for the playoffs. Emotionally, mentally, and physically spent, after nearly 20 years on the job, and a lack of success over the past decade.

What Mike Tomlin thinks happens at quarterback in Pittsburgh

“He’s got a love affair with the game of football… The informal moments. The development of younger guys. The connections with teammates. I think he’s got an addiction to that and there’s only one way to feed it,” said Tomlin when asked about Aaron Rodgers. “Gun to my head, it’s AR.”

The news isn’t surprising, even after the Steelers drafted a quarterback in the third round. The Steelers have remained in constant contact with Rodgers, and it’s important to note that Rodgers and Tomlin had a great relationship. If Tomlin is willing to figuratively put his life on the line to say that Rodgers will return, I bet he’s coming back.
