The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially reached the dog days of training camp.

With the hype of the first preseason game behind them, and the final days of practice in Latrobe this week, it's getting close for those who are on the roster bubble.

So now feels like a good time to see what the team projects to look like after three weeks of camp.

Note: Players with single asterisk (*) are 2024 draft picks and players with double asterisks (**) are 2024 undrafted free agents.

Quarterback (3)

In: Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, Kyle Allen
Out: John Rhys Plumlee**

The Skinny: While Justin Fields has been a camp darling, it's clear both on the depth chart and in the reps at this point, that it is Russell Wilson's job to lose. Kyle Allen looked solid in his Steelers debut and John Rhys Plumlee practiced as a WR during the team's most recent practice, meaning he will likely have to fit in there in order to make the final 53.

Running back (3)

In: Najee Harris, Jaylen Warren, Cordarrelle Patterson
Out: LaMichael Perine, Jonathan Ward, Aaron Shampklin, Jack Colletto, Daijun Edwards**

The Skinny: Harris has looked sharp throughout camp, noticeably displaying more explosion and agility, something he made sure to address in the offseason.

The man who has made the most of his opportunity and run with it is FB Jack Colletto, who is a physical presence as a FB. He still needs to prove more in terms of making the roster, but right now he's making a good impression.

Wide receiver (6)

In: George Pickens, Roman Wilson*, Van Jefferson, Calvin Austin III, Scotty Miller, Duece Watts
Out: Quez Watkins, Dez Fitzpatrick, Jaray Jenkins, Jacob Copeland, Tarik Black

The Skinny: Something tells me that when the final projection is put out, Duece Watts will be replaced with a certain WR who currently is a member of the San Francisco 49ers, but for now he's safe.

Roman Wilson was off to a great start before being sidelined by an ankle injury, but Calvin Austin has looked solid in his absence. The real enticing player here is Van Jefferson, who has formed a nice relationship with Justin Fields and made his fair share of plays in camp.

Tight end (4)

IN: Pat Freiermuth, Darnell Washington, Connor Heyward, MyCole Pruitt
Out: Rodney Williams, Matt Sokol

The Skinny: The highlight of their group through three weeks of camp has been second-year player Darnell Washington. Looking to be used heavily in Arthur Smith's tight end-friendly offense, the big man figures to contribute at an increased rate in 2024.

Offensive line (9)

In: Broderick Jones (RT), James Daniels (RG), Zach Frazier* (C), Isaac Seumalo (LG), Troy Fautanu* (LT), Dan Moore Jr., Mason McCormick* Nate Herbig, Spencer Anderson,
Out: Ryan McCollum, Devery Hamilton, Tyler Beach, Anderson Hardy, Dylan Cook, Joey Fisher

The Skinny: Following the injury to Troy Fautanu on Friday night, the likelihood that the rookie starts has taken a hit seeing that he is expected to miss the duration of the preseason. The other rookies, Zach Frazier and Mason McCormick have looked good in limited exposure.

Defensive line (7)

In: Larry Ogunjobi, Keeanu Benton, Cameron Heyward, Dean Lowry, DeMarvin Leal, Montravius Adams, Logan Lee*
Out: Isaiahh Loudermilk, Spencer Marquiss, Montravius Adams, Jonathan Marshall, Jacob Slade, Willington Previlon

The Skinny
: One of the strongest units on the team, the defensive line has been a force in both camp and the preseason, recording multiple sacks last Friday against the Texans.

Lowry was just activated off the physically unable-to-perform list so he may have to fight Loudermilk for the final spot in the rotation.

Linebacker (8)

In: T.J. Watt (EDGE), Patrick Queen, (ILB) Elandon Roberts (ILB), Alex Highsmith (EDGE) Cole Holcomb (ILB), Nick Herbig (EDGE) Payton Wilson* (ILB) Jeremiah Moon (EDGE)
Out: Tyler Matakevich (ILB), Mark Robinson (ILB), Kyron Johnson (EDGE), Julius Welschof** (EDGE) Jacoby Windmon** (EDGE) Luquay Washington** (ILB)

The Skinny: Holcomb is still scheduled to make the team in this projection, but the starter from 2023 has yet to practice at all in camp, leaving some to hypothesize that he will be on his way out of town.

At the EDGE position, the fourth spot is wide open following the sudden retirement of Markus Golden. Jeremiah Moon is in the front running after his performance against the Texans on Friday.

Cornerback (6)

In: Joey Porter Jr., Donte Jackson, Cam Sutton, Cory Trice Jr., Darius Rush, Beanie Bishop**
Out: Thomas Graham Jr., Kalon Barnes, Anthony Averett, Grayland Arnold, Kyler McMichael

The Skinny:
Corner might be the toughest position to cut on the Steelers this year. Bishop and Arnold have been battling for the starting slot CB role with Sutton scheduled to miss the first eight weeks of the season with suspension.

On the outside, the battle for the last corner spot could come down to some form of Trice Jr., Averett, or Rush, with all having their fair share of moments through this portion of the preseason.

Safety (4)

In: Minah Fitzpatrick, DeShon Elliott, Damontae Kazee, Miles Killebrew, Ryan Watts*
Out: Jalen Elliott, Ryan Watts*

The Skinny: Rookie UDFA Ryan Watts is looking to make the team and he has had a strong first impression in camp. If he can find a way to carry over his ball-hawking skills from practice to a preseason game, he may be a lock for the final 53 and force Pittsburgh to trim the roster elsewhere.

Specialists (3)

In: Chris Boswell (K), Cameron Johnston (P), Christian Kuntz (LS)
Out: Matthew Wright (K)

The Skinny: Punter Cameron Johnston has been a revelation in the special teams unit, catching the eye of many with his booming punts and long hang time.

The same can't be said for Chris Boswell, who has kicked sparingly in camp and hasn't exactly been sharp when he did.
