Dianna Russini has resigned from The Athletic following the recent release of photos of her and New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel at a resort, which jumpstarted an investigation at the sports news outlet.

“The New York Post last week published the photos of Vrabel and Russini at the Sedona hotel and said they were taken before the NFL league meeting that began in Phoenix on March 29.” — ESPN

What is the next step for Russini? In reality, it may be the most boring option. Check out some potential landing spots and outcomes for the experienced reporter below.

Barstool

This feels like the betting favorite – if that was a possibility. Russini already has a rapport with Pardon My Take, the podcast hosted by Dan “Big Cat” Katz and PFT Commenter. She appeared on the show as recently as the NFL Scouting Combine.

OutKick

OutKick is another option as an outlet who may take the swing on Russini. They are known for some bold takes and a diverse lineup of contributors, both in writing and on the air.

Yahoo! Sports

Yahoo! could look to make a newsy splash and add Russini to their NFL coverage. Andrew Siciliano, like Russini, has ESPN experience as well and hosts their main NFL show, Inside Coverage.

Bleacher Report

Bleacher Report has expanded into some more podcast avenues in recent years and added to their NFL Draft analysis. This could open the door for someone like Russini, who has been around that sort of coverage for a lot of her career.

Independent Podcast/Coverage

Here’s my clubhouse leader. Staying independent and “laying a bit low” may be the choice that makes the most sense for Russini. Russini hosted a podcast for The Athletic after joining the company and has experience on the microphone and on video, both, for multiple proven sports media companies.

It will be interesting to see which route Russini chooses. Her credibility on social media has certainly taken a hit following this scandal, but she will look to shake it off and move forward in her next opportunity.
