The Indianapolis Colts reported for their first day of Training Camp on July 24. And they have already made a roster move.
With the team announcing that they have signed WR Laquon Treadwell.
Laquon Treadwell
The Minnesota Vikings drafted Treadwell with the 23rd overall pick in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He spent his first four seasons in the NFL with the Vikings, where he appeared in 53 games and recorded 65 catches, 701 yards, and two touchdowns. Since leaving the Vikings, he's also played for the Atlanta Falcons (2020), Jacksonville Jaguars (2021), Seattle Seahawks (2022), and Baltimore Ravens (2023).
The 29-year-old WR was never able to live up to his first-round selection and is now joining his sixth different team. He is set to compete for a roster spot with the Colts, and his ability as an outside blocker is one of his best attributes. Typically, a couple of WR jobs are up for grabs during Training Camp for the Colts, but it doesn't feel like that's the case this season. As long as the team's top six WRs stay healthy, their roster spots seem reasonably safe. But if Treadwell can impress, maybe he could steal a spot, but I think the more realistic goal for him should be to earn a spot on the team's practice squad, where they have called multiple up-for-game days over the past few seasons.
