The San Francisco 49ers elevated two players from their practice squad for Week 13's NFC Championship Game rematch with the Philadelphia Eagles, giving themselves insurance at a position where they are short of depth.
San Francisco promoted safety Erik Harris and wide receiver Chris Conley to the gameday roster for a game that could have massive implications on the NFC playoff picture.
Harris' promotion is no surprise. The 49ers' signed him to the practice squad after backup safety George Odum followed All-Pro Talanoa Hufanga in suffering a season-ending injury, leaving the Niners with Tashaun Gipson and Ji'Ayir Brown as their only options at the position with Hufanga and Odum on IR.
He'll serve as the main backup to that duo while also likely helping fill the special teams void left by Odum, one of the best in the league in that facet of the game.
Conley's elevation is his third of the season. He cannot be used again this campaign without being signed to the active roster.
The 49ers are healthy at wideout, though kick return specialist Ray-Ray McCloud missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday with a rib injury but took part in Friday's session in a limited capacity. He was listed as questionable.
Brock Purdy’s everlasting calm will be critical to 49ers QB’s Eagles acid test
He’s keeping the same mindset.
