The new league year is upon us and Monday brings one of the most frantic times on the NFL calendar, as the negotiating window or 'legal tampering period', as it has come to be known, begins on Monday at 12pm ET.
Teams can negotiate with pending unrestricted free agents, but no deal can be officially confirmed until the new league year officially begins on March 13.
Pressed up against the salary cap, the San Francisco 49ers don't have a lot of room for maneuver as they look to make signings that will set themselves up for another run at the Super Bowl.
But the Niners have the ability to create room through restructures and contract extensions, so it's likely they will still be active on the open market in the coming days. Here we track the new signings and re-signings made by San Francisco in free agency.
Signings/Trades
A huge deal for the 49ers as, per NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, they have agreed to sign edge rusher Leonard Floyd to a two-year, $20 million deal. The contract could be worth top to $24 million. Floyd, coming off a 10.5-sack season, has 39.5 sacks in the last four seasons. He will get $12 million guaranteed in year one.
More edge help as the 49ers, per Rapoport, have agreed a two-year, $18 million deal for Yetur Gross-Matos, formerly of the Carolina Panthers. The 26-year-old is coming off the best season of his career, in which he recorded 4.5 sacks.
On the interior of the defensive line, the 49ers have agreed a deal to sign Jordan Elliott, per Rapoport. The former third-round pick of the Cleveland Browns has played four seasons with the team and started 31 games in the last two campaigns.
The 49ers added a veteran linebacker to the mix, agreeing to sign Eric Kendricks on a one-year deal. The former Minnesota Vikings All-Pro played 14 games for the Los Angeles Chargers last season.
UPDATE: Kendricks had a change of heart and, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, is signing a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys.
San Francisco continued its revamp of the interior defensive line by trading a seventh-round pick to the Houston Texans for defensive tackle Maliek Collins.
After missing out on Kendricks, the 49ers signed linebacker De'Vondre Campbell to a one-year deal, per Rapoport. Campbell, a 2021 First-team All-Pro, spent the last three seasons with the Green Bay Packers.
In a key move for their special teams, the 49ers have signed defensive back Chase Lucas to a one-year deal, per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.
Another move at defensive back, with the 49ers signing corner Isaac Yiadom to a one-year deal, per his agency Vayner Sports.
The 49ers added more to their special teams with the signing of linebacker Ezekiel Turner, formerly of the Arizona Cardinals, per Aaron Wilson of KPRC2.
In announcing a raft of recently reported signings, the 49ers also confirmed the signing of offensive tackle Brandon Parker, formerly of the Las Vegas Raiders.
The 49ers have completed their quarterback depth chart, signing Joshua Dobbs to a one-year deal that, per multiple reports, includes $2.25 million in guaranteed money.
Re-signings
The 49ers re-signed guard Ben Bartch to a one-year deal, per Matt Barrows of The Athletic. The 49ers are re-signing QB Brandon Allen to a one-year contract, per Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area. Allen was the 49ers' third-string quarterback last year.
Wide receiver Jauan Jennings has been tendered at the second-round level. If a team submits an offer sheet and the 49ers refuse to match, that team will have to give San Francisco a second-round pick. That is a very unlikely scenario, meaning Jennings will in all probability be with the Niners for at least one more season.
Though not a free agent, the 49ers made an important move by extending safety and core special teamer George Odum, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. It's a two-year extension for Odum, worth up to $10 million.
Having lost a couple of defensive linemen, the 49ers managed to retain one, signing Kevin Givens to a one-year deal. A valuable rotational defensive tackle, Givens has been with the Niners since 2019, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The 49ers moved to add depth at linebacker by re-signing Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles to a one-year deal, per Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team.
The 49ers are bringing back Jon Feliciano, who emerged as the starter at right guard down the stretch last season, on a one-year deal, per Peter Schrager of NFL Network.
San Francisco is also working to re-sign wide receiver Chris Conley on a one-year deal, per Maiocco. Conley made some clutch postseason plays and had a big catch in the Super Bowl.
Departures
Arik Armstead will be released by the 49ers after the defensive tackle, per Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area, reportedly refused to take a pay cut that would have significantly reduced his salary of $17.41 million. Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report was the first to report the news. Armstead was the longest-tenured member of the 49ers, having been with the team since his selection as a first-round pick in 2015.
Update: Armstead's release was confirmed by the 49ers on Wednesday.
San Francisco's backup tight end Charlie Woerner has agreed to terms on a three-year deal worth $12 million, according to his agent Alex Essex (h/t Michael Rothstein of ESPN).
49ers re-signed Allen, but Sam Darnold's time with the team is over. Per Rapoport, he has agreed a one-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings.
Former 49ers first-round defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw is also on his way out after coming to terms on a one-year deal with the Jets, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. A 14th overall selection in 2020, Kinlaw's career has been beset by knee issues, but he was fully healthy last season was impressive in San Francisco's Super Bowl defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs. The deal, per Ari Meriov of The 33rd Team, is worth $7.25 million with $6.9 million guaranteed.
Another exit as defensive end Clelin Ferrell is expected to sign with the Washington Commanders, per Diana Russini of The Athletic. Ferrell's sole season with San Francisco came to an end when he tore his ACL in Week 18. He had 3.5 sacks, six tackles for loss and a career-high 13 tackles for loss.
Offensive tackle Matt Pryor signed a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears, per Adam Jahns and Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic.
Per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, 49ers wide receiver and return man Ray-Ray McCloud is signing a two-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons.
Per Schefter, former 49ers edge rusher Chase Young is signing a one-year, $13 million deal with the New Orleans Saints. The Niners traded a third-round pick for Young at least season's deadline, but he managed just 2.5 sacks. He also had a sack in Super Bowl 58.
We will update this post as more information comes in.
