4 things the NFL nailed on the Buccaneers 2026 schedule: From Bengals opener to travel schedule, the Bucs are in great shape
The Buccaneers needed a lot of things to work in their favor this offseason and the 2026 schedule is another feather in the cap after successful free agency and NFL Draft sessions.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ official 2026 schedule has arrived and as with any team’s schedule – there are plenty of positives and negatives to dish on.
In this article, we’re going to stay on the positive side of the coin when it comes to discussion topics. Don’t worry, there will be a negative follow-up for all you glass-half-empty folks.
In all seriousness, let’s stop wasting time and dive right in.
4 things the NFL nailed when it comes to the Buccaneers 2026 schedule
1. The season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals
This the most exciting season-opener in recent memory. Especially when considering Joe Burrow should be healthy. It’s sad that’s something to bring up, but that’s unfortunately been the case with the Bengals’ superstar quarterback.
Regardless, this has all the makings of a shootout. The Bengals and Buccaneers both have questionable secondaries, which doesn’t bode well when considering each team’s receiving corps.
Plus, it’s Burrow vs. Baker Mayfield. Two of the NFL’s biggest names at their respective position squaring off. It really doesn’t get much better than this.
The only knock is it’s not a primetime game. Instead, we get to watch the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants square off on Sunday Night Football. Yay!
2. The Buccaneers have zero holiday games on their 2026 schedule
Holiday games are basically extra Thursday night games, these days. I mean, Thanksgiving is obviously always on a Thursday and then Christmas Day is on a Friday, this year.
It’s always a pain in the butt having to modify a schedule like this, especially when considering football players and coaches are creatures of habit. Avoiding this “extraness” is always a win for any team when it applies.
Plus, that means both the team and fans get to enjoy the holidays with their loved ones, which is always a win.
3. The first two games are against AFC teams
Every game is important, but divisional and intra-conference games reign supreme.
When you combine that with the typical slippery slope that is the first few games of the NFL season, it really shows why the Buccaneers have an early advantage with their 2026 schedule.
The first two games are against the aforementioned Bengals and then the Cleveland Browns. For starters, the Bengals have been of the NFL’s worst teams in the early portion of a season over the last few years. Then, the Browns’ quarterback situation and overall offensive rebirth under Todd Monken will likely take a few weeks before both become effective.
At the same time, it’s no death knell if the Buccaneers somehow lose both games. It’s a great spot to be in, honestly.
4. The Buccaneers are one of the least-traveled teams in 2026
Not only does game placement matter, but the amount of miles an NFL team takes on is crucial to regular season wins, as well.
Again, it’s another dub for the Buccaneers. The Bucs are set to travel 12,185 air miles in 2026, per senior betting analyst Bill Speros. Their longest trip is Chicago, which is 1,011 air miles away. The Bears are also the only team on the Buccaneers’ 2026 schedule that are over 1,000 air miles away.
A big reason why they don’t have to log a bunch of miles is because they don’t have an international game, which is a win in itself.
