The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs haven't been strangers to each other the past several years.  With matchups in the Super Bowl and on Sunday Night Football over the last four seasons, the two have had their share of primetime moments.

The teams have a chance to possibly face off again in front of a lot of eyeballs in 2024.

The Chiefs and Bucs are scheduled to face off in 2024 as part of the NFC South vs. AFC West rotation.  The matchup will take place in Kansas City.  Because the Chiefs just won the Super Bowl – again – they will open the season up on Thursday night at home in Week 1.

That of course opens up the possibility of the Buccaneers getting the nod as the visiting team for the game.  The Bucs join the Saints as the other team from the NFC South to visit the Chiefs next year.  Also visiting Kansas City are the Chargers, Broncos, Raiders, Texans, Raiders, and Bengals.

Clearly the NFL has some options here.  They could put the Ravens and Lamar Jackson in that slot, and no one would think twice.  Same for Joe Burrow and the Bengals.  The exciting Texans with C.J. Stroud also make sense.  All are extremely viable options.

However, the Buccaneers should still remain a possibility, especially if they can find a way to re-sign Baker Mayfield, Mike Evans, Antoine Winfield, Jr., and Lavonte David.  Patrick Mahomes admitted after Super Bowl LVIII that the loss to Tom Brady and the Bucs is still something that motivates him.

Also, the NFL had Miami, Buffalo, Philadelphia, and Cincinnati they could have matched the Chiefs with this past season in the opener, and they went with Detroit.  While the Lions were an up-and-coming team coming off of a 9-8 season, they didn't have nearly the name and star power of the other four teams.

The Bucs and Chiefs have played four times over the last eight seasons, with the results being split.  Tampa Bay won in Kansas City in 2016 19-17, then the Bucs dropped regular season matchups in 2020 and 2022 at home.  Of course, the Bucs got the one the mattered the most, dominating Mahomes and the Chiefs 31-9 in Super Bowl LV.

We'll know in April if the Bucs will get to face the two-time defending Super Bowl champion in front of a national audience, when the NFL releases the full 2024 schedule.
