NASHVILLE — Receiver Calvin Ridley is on a mission during his second season with the Tennessee Titans. After a disappointing 3-14 team finish in 2024, Ridley comes into 2025 as a team captain who is as committed as any player on the roster to ensuring that never happens again.
Ridley will be critical to No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward’s success in his first NFL season.
Cam Ward and the Titans relying on Calvin Ridley in a huge way
It is no secret that Ridley, who finished with 1,017 yards on 64 receptions and four touchdowns a year ago, is Tennessee’s best offensive weapon.
“A lot of times, the starting point for captains is production,” head coach Brian Callahan said of Ridley on Thursday. “That’s usually the starting point, guys that perform, which he’s certainly done. The other part of it is how they work, and I think you guys all see it. There’s probably not a guy that practices as hard as Rid (Calvin Ridley) on a snap-to-snap basis. He’s really grown in his leadership. I’m actually really proud of Rid and the things that he’s accomplished in that realm over the course of the offseason. He’s deserving of it, he has earned it, and I’m glad his teammates see it the same way.”
Ridley has taken it upon himself to support Ward and the rest of his Titans teammates at every turn.
What will be critical in 2025 is finding ways to support Ridley on the field, as he expects to command the most amount of attention from opposing defenses this season. Tennessee expects to see three fourth-round rookies, Elic Ayomanor, Chimere Dike and tight end Gunnar Helm, get a significant target share in this year’s offense. Veteran Tyler Lockett, 32, can also help ease the learning curve for the young skill players.
Someone other than Ridley, however, must prove to be a viable threat to maximize Tennessee’s pass game success.
