The Washington Commanders haven’t shied away from making moves that go against popular opinions, and now they have to see if they made the right decisions.

One of their controversial moves was releasing starting center Tyler Biadasz, who was actually a solid player and one of their better free agent signings under the new regime. Now, Jayden Daniels will be working with a new starting center for the first time in his career, and the Commanders can’t mess up replacing Biadasz.

Biadasz was also now free to hit the market, and he didn’t last long after signing a massive deal with the Los Angeles Chargers before free agency, so maybe it wasn’t the right move after all.

Tyer Biadasz lands with Mike McDaniel and Justin Herbert

Biadasz was already a hot name with his age and positional value, and he made two quick visits as a free agent with the Chicago Bears and Chargers as the top two teams interested in him. After spending not even a week on the market, Biadasz lands with the Chargers, and with the exact deal he first made in Washington.

Biadasz is signing a three-year, $30 million deal with the Chargers to snap to Justin Herbert and work with new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel. This is the exact deal he signed when he first came to Washington two offseasons ago, which is very surprising.

Biadasz is making $10 million per year, which is currently the sixth-highest annual average for a center. The Chargers believe they have their answer, while the Commanders still search for their own this offseason.

The Commanders have more questions than answers now

The biggest question isn’t who will be snapping to Daniels, but instead, why the Commanders weren’t able to trade Biadasz, who obviously had a hot market. The deal he received from the Chargers showed that they likely could’ve gotten at least a Day Three pick for Biadasz. Now, Adam Peters has to swing big at center and answer the question of whether he made a mistake or not.

I believe they already have an answer in mind, and the new center could be their first free agency signing. Don’t expect them to overpay for Tyler Linderbaum, but Connor McGovern, Lloyd Cushenberry III, Cade Mays, Ethan Pocic, or Elgton Jenkins if he’s released, could all be options. The 2026 NFL Draft has some solid options as well, but they only have six picks to work with.

What they do early in free agency will tell you the approach they wanted to take at center this offseason. They also extended Nick Allegretti, who stepped in at center, and could be the backup option if their plans fall apart.
