Washington Commanders could still sign needed free agent from position group with strong options available before NFL Draft

The Washington Commanders have plenty of free agent options still available to fix one big weakness before they’re on the clock for the 2026 NFL Draft, where they can add more.

The NFL Draft is just two weeks away, and the Washington Commanders are ready to add more talent to their roster.

They drastically improved the roster in free agency, and currently have six picks to work with. Before they’re on the clock at No. 7 overall, they could still make another big move that would help them a ton.

The WR position still has plenty of free agents on the market who have yet to sign with a team, and the Washington Commanders need one. Here’s a look at possible moves the Commanders could still make at WR.

Sign Jauan Jennings

Jauan Jennings is easily the top WR on the market right now, and it’s surprising that he hasn’t found a new home yet. Reports are that he’s asking for way too much for teams, and they’re waiting on him to come down in price. The Commanders could wait it out and off a reasonable deal to see if he’d take it right before the draft.

Jennings has the size that’s missing in Washington at 6-3, 212 pounds and his ability to create big plays with the ball in his hands. He’s coming off a nine touchdown season where he also played through injuries and he’s as tough as they come. Signing Jennings at the right price makes too much sense, it just might not be an option.

Sign Stefon Diggs

Stefon Diggs is another top WR who is coming off a productive season, but his off the field issues are keeping him a free agent. The Washington Commanders can wait it out and see what happens with his issues and if they don’t land a WR in the draft, then revisit the possibility.

Diggs did have a huge 2025 season, however, and he was Drake Maye’s top target. He finished with 85 catches for 1,013 yards and had just two drops. Washington could bring Diggs home after the draft, but only if he’s clear of any further punishments from the NFL.

Wait for Brandon Aiyuk

The Washington Commanders have been linked to Brandon Aiyuk since November last year when it was reported that he would be leaving the 49ers. Here we are in April, and we’re still waiting for something to happen. The 49ers are standing their ground on trying to trade Aiyuk for a late round pick, but that seems very unlikely to happen.

The Commanders are likely to wait it out until the 49ers release him closer to June 1st, and add him as a late addition. This won’t stop them from drafting a top WR, and Aiyuk would just come over on a one-year cheap deal anyways.
