Free agent targets for Washington Commanders to watch playing in Super Bowl LX
The Commanders should have their eyes on a handful of free agents playing in Super Bowl LX, including Tariq Woolen and Boye Mafe.
The 2025 NFL season is coming to an end with Super Bowl LX between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, and the Washington Commanders should have their eyes on the matchup.
The Commanders have reset their coaching staff this offseason, and now they need to do the same with the roster. They have 33 pending free agents, with many difficult decisions ahead. General manager Adam Peters also needs to be aggressive and swing for some big names in free agency to add talent to the roster.
The Super Bowl is filled with upcoming free agents that the Commanders should be keeping tabs on for when March rolls around. The NFL salary cap boost may inflate contract values in free agency, so I’m including projected numbers from both Spotrac and PFF to give you an idea of what to expect.
Free agents playing in Super Bowl LX to watch
Tariq Woolen, CB, Seattle Seahawks
The Commanders need another cornerback desperately, and Tariq Woolen was a player that the Seahawks were open to moving before the trade deadline. They’re loaded at cornerback, and might not be willing to play Woolen that big contract he’s looking for. The Commanders should be all over Woolen if he hits the market and doesn’t ask for a massive contract.
Woolen has had a very up-and-down career in Seattle, and his market projection is difficult to gauge because different teams will have different outlooks on him. Spotrac has him getting a one-year, $8 million prove-it deal, while PFF has him expected to get a three-year, $45 million contract this offseason. Woolen’s first few weeks of the season were as bad as it gets, but then he became a top-10 corner in the league over the last five games. He’s 6-4, 205 pounds, and about to turn 27.

Boye Mafe, EDGE, Seattle Seahawks
Boye Mafe will likely be one of my favorite free agent targets this offseason who isn’t getting talked about enough. He’s 6-4, 261 pounds, and has become a steady pass rusher, while also being a reliable run defender. Mafe only had two sacks in 2025, but he had six in 2024 and nine in 2023. He’s racked up 146 pressures over the last three seasons and is steadily in the backfield.
Mafe just turned 27, so he’s still ascending as a producer, which is exactly what the Commanders need on the defensive line. He’s projected to get a two-year deal worth $16.1 million this offseason, according to Spotrac, which is reasonable for the Commanders. PFF has his market value at three-years and $49 million.

Coby Bryant, Safety, Seattle Seahawks
Coby Bryant has been an underrated part of the Seahawks’ defense. He thrives in the run game, but also has four interceptions on the season. Bryant is just 26 and continues to improve every year.
The Commanders need to revamp their awful safety room and three sure starters in Daronte Jones’ defense next season. Bryant is projected to get around $14 million per year in his new contract, according to Spotrac.

K’Lavon Chaisson, EDGE, New England Patriots
Just like a lot of the Patriots’ underrated free agent signings last season, K’Lavon Chaisson has had the best year of his career in New England and is looking for a payday. Chaisson doesn’t play on every down, but he makes the most of every rep he gets. He has 54 pressures on just 400 pass rush snaps this season, with seven and a half sacks to go with it.
Chaisson is still 26 and would be a great option if the Commanders can land a bigger name. They could still draft another to add to the line. Spotrac has him earning $9 to $10 million per year this offseason.

Jaylinn Hawkins, Safety, New England Patriots
Jaylinn Hawkins had a career year for the Patriots, and he’s still severely underrated. He ranks as the fifth-highest graded safety on PFF and the second-highest graded run-defending safety. Hawkins also has four interceptions on the season and earned the eighth-highest coverage grade among all safeties.
He was one of the best safeties in the NFL in 2025 and was well worth the contract he received this offseason. At 28, Hawkins is projected to get a three-year, $25 million contract, which is well within range for the Commanders.
