The Commanders could have one less worry this offseason after latest update on Kliff Kingsbury’s head coaching opportunities
The Commanders might have one less task on their list this offseason, with Kliff Kingsbury being listed as an outside chance for the Giants’ head coaching position.
The Washington Commanders are looking to finish the season strong, and then it’s back to work for the front office and the coaching staff.
General manager Adam Peters has a long to-do list to get the team back to winning, and it starts on Black Monday. Teams will make drastic changes and begin their search for new head coaches and coordinators around the league. The Commanders are one of those teams looking for a new defensive coordinator, but could they have to replace Kliff Kingsbury as well?
The latest report has Kingsbury as an outside shot for the New York Giants job, which is one less thing the Commanders might have to worry about.
Kliff Kingsbury could be a long shot for the Giants’ head coaching job
Kingsbury will be a hot name this offseason despite having a down year for the Commanders, but will he actually leave? He’s already been linked to the Tennessee Titans and Las Vegas Raiders job as a fit, but what about going to a division rival? ESPN’s Jordan Raanan said the Giants will cast a wide net in their head coaching search, but Kingsbury might be on the outside looking in.
“Commanders’ offensive coordinator Kingsbury, who also has experience as an NFL head coach with the Cardinals, is considered a bright offensive mind. The question is if he’s the right fit for the New York market.” – Jordan Raanan, ESPN
It would be a surprise if Kingsbury doesn’t even get an interview with the Giants, given his track record with young quarterbacks, and what he could do with Jaxson Dart. It sounds like they could be interested in Kingsbury, but he’s likely more of a tier two or tier three candidate for the Giants.
Kliff Kingsbury is open to becoming a head coach again
Kingsbury left the possibility of becoming a head coach again open when he was asked about it, after being selective in his opportunities last offseason.
“Yeah, I mean, I’m going to kind of cross that bridge, you know, when and if we get there, but the focus right now is still just trying to beat Philly.”
Losing Kingsbury would be a bigger deal than a lot of fans realize, and it would be a true “you don’t know what you have until it’s gone” scenario in my eyes. Having Jayden Daniels in the same offensive system going into his third year would be ideal, while he continues to develop, get healthy, and prepare for a bounce-back 2026 season.
