A big reason why Pittsburgh isn't scoring more is because the team isn't throwing the ball down the field and trying to create splash plays.

And that's frustrating some players in the locker room.

After the loss, wide receiver Chase Claypool spoke with reporters and had plenty to say about the team's offensive struggles against the Dolphins.

"I just think we need more go balls," said Claypool on Sunday night (via ESPN's Brooke Pryor). "Like, damn, not enough go balls. We got playmakers. I haven't had a go ball all year. George needs more, (Diontae) needs more. I'm not saying that's on the playcalling, I'm just saying we need to try to find a way to scheme it up."

Claypool is absolutely right. The absence of splash plays has made this offense incredibly easy to defend. Opposing defenses know they just have to keep everything in front of them because the Steelers aren't going to throw the ball down the field.

Pittsburgh has essentially become a one-dimensional team.

Claypool was diplomatic in his response by saying this isn't on the playcalling. You have to respect him for not pointing fingers, but this is absolutely on the playcalling.

The Steelers have an elite group of wide receivers. Claypool, Diontae Johnson, and rookie George Pickens should have no trouble finding success down the field.

But offensive coordinator Matt Canada seemingly has no interest in a vertical passing attack.

It's tough to consistently win in the NFL without splash plays. Something has to change if the Steelers are going to rally in the AFC North. And it has to change fast.

Pittsburgh needs to listen to Claypool. He's giving them the answers to the test. Now it's up to the Steelers' offensive staff to use those answers to put Pittsburgh's wide receivers in a better position to have success.
