After signing free agent DT Dre'Mont Jones to a three-year deal, the Seattle Seahawks are releasing another defensive lineman in Quinton Jefferson.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Jefferson is being released after one year with the team.

Jefferson, an eighth-year player in 2023, signed a two-year, $9.5 million deal with the Seahawks in 2022. He was scheduled to earn $4.2 million in cash this upcoming season and count for nearly $6.5 million against the salary cap for Seattle.

The team will save about $4.5 million in cap space by letting Jefferson go.

Last season, Jefferson achieved a career-high in sacks (5.5) as a rotational defensive tackle for the Seahawks, but Pro Football Focus graded him at a lowly 55.6 rushing the passer. The 29-year old played exactly 600 snaps, with 378 of them on passing downs.

The arrival of Jones will definitely help the Seahawks' pass rush, and moving on from Jefferson can allow the defensive line as a whole to get younger and more explosive. The team is also reportedly releasing Shelby Harris.

It'll be a new-look front four in Seattle, and Jefferson will look to continue his career elsewhere.
