The Dallas Cowboys' Fourth of July weekend ended in unfortunate fashion.

According to insider Mike Fisher, All-Pro kick returner KaVontae Turpin was arrested with multiple charges on Sunday in Allen, Texas. The Cowboys wide receiver and specialist was arrested with marijuana and gun charges.

Per Fisher's report, Turpin's bond was set at $500 for marijuana possession and $1,000 for the "unlawful weapon."

Could KaVontae Turpin be suspended for this arrest?

Since the NFL agreed to a new collective bargaining agreement in 2020, players are no longer suspended for positive marijuana tests. In December, it also loosened its drug testing parameters to allow for higher THC limits.

However, Turpin is still subject to the NFL's personal conduct policy since he got arrested for it.

Additionally, the unlawful carrying weapon charge is likely to be carefully reviewed by the league. Details will determine if Turpin will be suspended or not. Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams didn't face discipline from the NFL after he was a passenger in a car pulled over for speeding last October. Williams didn't have a permit to carry a weapon registered to his name.

An individual is subject to discipline under the policy if the person is determined to be guilty of a criminal charge or if the NFL investigation demonstrates the person engaged in conduct prohibited by the policy. Depending on the nature of the violation and the person’s record, discipline may be a fine, suspension, community service, or a combination of the three.

Since the Cowboys signed Turpin out of the USFL, he's become one of the most prolific returners in the game. He's now a two-time Pro Bowler and recently received his first All-Pro honors in 2024. He led the NFL in punt return touchdowns (1) and kick return touchdowns (1), while also gaining the most kick return yards, including a 99-yard return versus the Washington Commanders.

Turpin has also become a factor on offense thanks to his unique speed.

In 2018, Turpin was dismissed from TCU for two domestic violence charges.
