South Carolina hasn't been blowing people away or turning heads, per se, when it comes to their 2026 recruiting class. But they are doing some good things.

Their 2026 class is currently in the top 50 nationally with eight four stars and possibly more coming. In fact, there is one they are getting closer to landing. They aren't being predicted to land him, but you never know what could happen in this current world of college football.

South Carolina is getting closer to landing Somourian Wingo Jr.

Somourian Wingo Jr. is one of the best high school receivers left when it comes to the 2026 class. But just because he's one of the best left, doesn't mean he is a bad player or a player that's not good enough. He's a four-star wide receiver from St. Augustine High School in Florida.

At 6'2" and 180 pounds, he has the size and speed for college football at the SEC level, and he could only add to that frame with some college training and elite staff members giving him a good program to work off. In his junior year, he recorded 71 catches, over 1,100 yards, and 14 touchdowns, leading his team to an 11-2 record and a deep playoff run in Florida’s 4A division.

He’s received over 24 college offers and has narrowed his choices to Florida, Miami, Alabama, LSU, and South Carolina. Florida and Miami are the favorites due to their location and strong coaching relationships, but South Carolina is not out of it, and seems to be a team in the top-three, and only making even more of a case as time goes on.

He’s visited both Miami and Florida multiple times, including official visits in June, and just recently visited South Carolina, as part of his most recent visit on June 20. Being the last team to meet with him gives the Gamecocks an advantage. He's met with South Carolina twice so far in his recruitment.

Wingo’s versatility shines with his ability to make tough catches, use different releases, and gain yards after the catch. He’s working on his speed and route-running. SC has some work to do, as Florida and Miami are leading, but you can't deny that the Gamecocks are getting closer to potentially landing him.
