The Tennessee Vols, as is often the case, are the talk of the college football world thanks to what's happening off the field.
Quarterback Nico Iamaleava and Tennessee officially parted ways on Saturday after the California native skipped practice on Friday after a report surfaced the previous day that the two sides were in active negotiations for a new NIL contract.
On Saturday, after Georgia's spring game, Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart was asked about his thoughts on the situation between Iamaleava and Tennessee.
Smart pointed out that it's hard to know what's real and what's not with the reports about Iamaleava and Tennessee.
"I don't know enough about that situation to fairly comment on it," said Smart. "I mean, I basically know what you guys know. And then you don't know what's real, what's being reported, what's being leaked, what are the reasons for all of it? Again, I'm worried about my house, and I try to control what goes on in my house. I can't worry about everybody else's house. So the climate is different. But again, I'm focused on the kids we got who wanna be here."
Smart and the Bulldogs went through their own quarterback drama earlier this offseason.
According to USA Today's Matt Hayes, Georgia wanted to keep quarterback Carson Beck for the 2025 season. Instead, Beck transferred to Miami.
The Beck situation at Georgia, which has been one of the most stable programs in college football over the last several years, shows that no college football program is immune from NIL drama.
College football is in a dangerous place right now. And if there aren't some guard rails put in place soon, the whole sport could, in fact, go off the rails (if it hasn't already).
