In the 2026 recruiting class, many Fighting Irish fans have been curious about who the top tight end targets were on the board. It appears that Waukee (Iowa) High School star Evan Jacobson could be turning into a priority for the staff. Jacobson recently traveled to Notre Dame this past Friday, and spent a couple of days in South Bend.
Based on conversations with various sources, that visit went extremely well. On Monday, On3 vice president of recruiting Steve Wiltfong put in an expert prediction for Jacobson to end up with Notre Dame. It would be an intriguing land for the Irish, who will be hosting the 6-7, 225-pound pass catcher for an official visit on June 20-22.
Jacobson hasn’t set a commitment date yet, but if it’s anytime soon, Notre Dame seems to be the team to beat. The Irish staff intends on taking two tight ends in the 2026 class. It would be a great start if they could land Jacobson.
Jacobson’s offer list has continued to expand quickly the last few months, and his offer list now sits well over 30 in total. Some of the more notable programs that have extended offers include the Fighting Irish, Ohio State, LSU, Penn State, Miami, Auburn, Texas A&M, Florida State, Nebraska, Arkansas, Colorado, Michigan State, Louisville, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Kansas State, Boston College, Purdue, Stanford, Minnesota, Missouri, Baylor, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa State and Kansas among several others.
The talented athlete is considered to be the No. 169 overall player and No. 11 in the 2026 recruiting class according to 247Sports. Jacobson is also ranked as the top player in the state of Iowa. It also isn’t overly surprising that he is an outstanding basketball player for Waukee High School, following in his father’s footsteps, who played basketball at Nebraska and Iowa State.
