The Jacksonville Jaguars are in a weird place regarding their franchise and its current state. A few years ago, they made the postseason with a playoff win over the Los Angeles Chargers and a close loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

However, since then, it's been very, very dark in Jacksonville when it comes to their football team. But, the hope is that this new regime gets them where they want to be. To do so, they hired two guys from two different successful franchises in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Los Angeles Rams. And, these two guys understand what needs to happen to fix both the offense and defense, two sides of the roster that have tremendous potential.

They know that it starts in the trenches. That's their plan, and they plan on sticking to it.

“Something that's been very clear to both Liam and me, and it’s something we both value innately, is physical and mental toughness," general manager James Gladstone said earlier this week. "I know that probably was apparent in that just by default, the offensive line and defensive line, that breeds that sort of mentality and that type of play. We prioritized addressing the offensive line through pro-free agency. I think we'll continue to do that throughout the draft.

"I don't think we're limited at the fronts, right? That stuff should show up at all levels of our offensive and defensive operations, and clearly on special teams. That's always going to remain at the forefront. Those two elements in tandem are really a real combination that we covet. I think you'll hear just about every time that Liam steps to a podium, he's going to mention some version of physical and mental toughness as really what he's hunting for.”

And, exactly what Gladstone is preaching is exactly what the Jaguars have been linked to through mock drafts and such — defensive tackle Mason Graham at pick No. 5. It's perfect when factoring in the best player available method, along with what the Jaguars need. They need a guy in the middle to wreck things and to help relieve some pressure off of both Joshua Hines-Allen and Travon Walker.

The Jaguars also need tremendous help on the offensive line. It's time they stop making things harder for Trevor Lawrence. Since he's been on the team, that's all they have done. Make things easier on him, and maybe we'll finally see his best side come out. And to do that, he needs weapons and time to throw the ball.

Luckily, this draft class has some great defensive tackles in it all throughout the draft. And, there are some good offensive tackles and offensive guards, but a large number of the guys who will be ready to play right now are in round one. The Jaguars have some decisions to make, but it's obvious that they're going to place a heavy priority on the trenches.
