There are some out there who have a lot of questions about USC head coach Lincoln Riley, and just how good he is at his job. Most won’t question his prowess as an offensive play caller, however. Riley is one of the very best offensive minds on the college football or NFL level.
You also can’t push back on Riley’s resume with the quarterback position. Whether it’s Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, Jalen Hurts, or Caleb Williams, Coach Riley has tutored some really darn good ones over the years. That resume speaks for itself. It’s no coincidence that track record has continued to attract some top signal callers from all over.
It appears that Riley could have his next star pupil in the pretty near future. 2026 Folsom (Calif.) High School quarterback Ryder Lyons has been predicted to end up with the Trojans by On3 transfer portal report Pete Nakos. An elite recruit in the 2026 class, Lyons would be a massive commitment if he does in deed select USC.
Lyons, who is listed at 6-2 and 215 pounds, is considered an elite prospect in the 2026 class. He currently ranks as a five-star recruit on the 247Sports Composite ranking, currently sitting as the No. 17 overall player, No. 4 quarterback, and No. 4 player in the state of California. 247Sports is even higher on their own ranking, currently sitting as the No. 6 overall player in the class.
Some of the very best programs in all of college football have pursued Lyons heavily. Lyons’ top offers include the Trojans, Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, LSU, Oregon, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Florida, Florida State, Auburn, and Texas A&M among many others.
As a junior, Lyons put together a tremendous season for Folsom. In 13 games, he threw for 3,011 yards and 46 touchdowns, while also completing over 68 percent of his passes and throwing just six interceptions. Lyons also added another 585 yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground.
USC potentially keeping a player like Lyons at home would be a big deal. His older brother Walker Lyons is a member do the Trojans team, so they did have a little bit of an inside track. Still, beating out that many notable programs won’t go unnoticed, even if USC might have to wait a couple of years to see Lyons in action.
