Former Kansas City Chiefs players continue to make waves in the UFL this season.

In Week 2, former Chiefs DB D.J. Miller made UFL history with the Michigan Panthers, becoming the first player in league history to record two interceptions in a single game. Now, a pair of former Chiefs players combined for an improbable touchdown grab in the D.C. Defenders' 27-15 win over the St. Louis Battlehawks, lifting their team to the only undefeated 3-0 record in the fledgling league.

Former Chiefs QB Jordan Ta'amu and WR Cornell Powell combine for an iconic play in UFL Week 3

On third-and-goal with a three-point lead and just over two minutes left in the fourth quarter, former Chiefs QB Jordan Ta'amu dropped back to pass. He unloads what can only be described as an inadvised throw with a Battlehawks defender jumping in front of the receiver. To Ta'amu's advantage, the defender could only pop the ball up. That's where former Chiefs WR Cornell Powell comes into play.

Powell had just come uncovered in his route and saw the ball pop up to the right. He made a diving touchdown grab in what feels like the ultimate case of being in the right place at the right time.

Powell is one of just 17 UFL receivers who have caught a touchdown this season.

This chemistry shouldn't be a major shock to anyone who followed the Chiefs over the past five seasons. Ta'amu and Powell spent the 2021 NFL offseason working together in Kansas City. Ta'amu is a former undrafted free agent from the Ole Miss Rebels, while Powell is a former fifth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by way of the Clemson Tigers. The latter became a two-time Super Bowl champion during his time with the Chiefs in 2022 and 2023.

Neither Ta'amu nor Powell truly saw much opportunity in Kansas City beyond a few preseason exhibition games and working on the scout team. Should Powell keep making plays like this, the 27-year-old might find himself back in the NFL sooner than later.
