There are a lot of rumors flying around in the wake of the unexpected breakup between the Tennessee Vols and quarterback Nico Iamaleava.

One rumor that emerged this week, via CBS Sports' Josh Pate, is that Iamaleava nearly held out of Tennessee's College Football Playoff game against Ohio State.

"This past December, cats like Nico Iamaleava, almost held out of playoff games because they were trying to renegotiate contracts in the middle of a playoff run," said Pate. "He wasn't the only one."

On Monday, during an appearance on 104.5 The Zone's Ramon, Kayla, and Will, VolQuest's Austin Price commented on the rumors surrounding Iamaleava and the Ohio State game.

"I know what was being reported out there about whatever before the Ohio State game, I have never heard that," said Price. "I talked to multiple people last night that told me that was not true. Again, I have no reason to believe that as true based off the people I talked to. But, again, everybody's gotta stand kinda on what they're hearing and what they're reporting."

Price, for what's it worth, is a longtime Vols insider that's as plugged into UT athletics as anyone in the business.

The problem with situations like this is that not many folks are willing to go on the record to discuss (with evidence) what actually went on behind the scenes. As a result, rumors take off and become reality for some fans and people in the media.

This isn't a shot anyone's reporting, but it's a reminder to take everything with a grain of salt because it seems we're all just hearing bits and pieces of whatever the real story happens to be.
