A couple of years ago, Boo Carter, a four-star defensive back in the 2024 class, was one of the most hyped recruits in the nation.

And after being named to the SEC All-Freshman Team following his first season with the Tennessee Vols, it appeared that Carter’s stock was trending up with no signs of slowing down.

But things changed last summer after Carter reportedly failed to take part in numerous offseason activities with his Vols teammates.

Carter remained on the team to start the 2025 season, but his snaps decreased as the season progressed before he was eventually dismissed from the team last November.

The Chattanooga native entered the transfer portal after the season and, as many expected, landed at Colorado, which is where his dad says he always wanted to be.

“It (Colorado) was something that we kind of wanted to do from the start,” said Carter’s dad, Terrence Holland, earlier this spring. “But at the same time, we were trying to make that hometown hero. We tried to make that work. We wish Tennessee the best, but it just didn’t work out. And we kind of really ended up where we were supposed to be at.”

The national media isn’t high on Boo Carter after his tough sophomore season at Tennessee

A fresh start at Colorado should be a good thing for Carter.

But the national media isn’t very high on him following his troubles at Tennessee.

On3 didn’t include Carter, despite his obvious talent, on their recent list of the top 10 transfers in the Big 12.

Additionally, ESPN didn’t include Carter among this offseason’s top 100 transfers in college football.

Carter is expected to play cornerback at Colorado after mostly playing slot corner/nickelback at Tennessee.

“Boo is going to play corner,” said Colorado head coach Deion Sanders on Thee Pregame Show. “That’s what I see. That’s what I want right now, because I think he deserves it. I don’t see them call too many slots in the first round, and that guy deserves to be that kind of guy. So, we’re gonna put him in that light, and he’s gonna shine.”

The former Vol has the talent to be an early-round draft pick, but he’ll have to prove himself all over again before the national media views him as a legitimate draft prospect.
