The Chicago Bears will be in wait and see mode with the 10th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and what I mean by that is, the first nine selections will ultimately impact who the Bears select with their top selection.

The resounding belief is that the Bears are really high on RB Ashton Jeanty but seem to be unwilling to move up from the 10th overall pick. That means the Bears are instead hoping a team like the Las Vegas Raiders and others in the Top-10 pass on selecting Jeanty, allowing him to fall to Chicago.

If that's not the case, the Bears seem to be preparing for the contingency plan in their hunt to potentially add an impact RB to the roster in the first-round.

UNC's Omarion Hampton meeting with the Bears on Monday

That contingency plan is already in the building and meeting with the Bears to start off the week. UNC's Omarion Hampton posted a picture to his Instagram story on Monday inside the Bears facility, more than likely on his Top-30 visit with the team.

Of the Top-30 visits officially reported, Hampton joins Jeanty and defensive end Shemar Stewart as only Top-30 visits in consideration for the 10th overall pick.

Missing out on Jeanty but still selecting Hampton in the first-round fills the need on the roster with an impact player and follows a similar blue-print new head coach Ben Johnson watched play out during his time as the OC with the Detroit Lions.

In the 2023 NFL Draft, Bijan Robinson was drafted 8th overall as the first RB selected off the board. Four picks later, the Lions drafted Jahmyr Gibbs, in a surprising move, making him the second back selected in the Top-15.

Saying Jeanty goes in the first nine selections, Johnson could deploy the same strategy by taking Hampton at 10 as the second back off the board, who would still be an ideal fit for what the team is missing in the running back room.

"If there was no Ashton Jeanty in this class, Hampton would likely be the top running back in this class. He is a stout running back who can do a little bit of everything out of the backfield. At North Carolina, Hampton lined up nearly exclusively next to the quarterback in the shotgun and thrived in that spot…

"Whether it be zone or gap concepts, Hampton can do it all for you. He can run through defenders and can soften angles to avoid defenders. However, he struggles to make defenders miss in open space and that could be viewed as limiting." – Omarion Hampton Scouting Report via A to Z Sports' Tyler Forness

Just like with Jeanty, Hampton pairs well style-wise with D'Andre Swift, giving the Bears a power back and an explosive back. Which is exactly what Ben Johnson worked with in Detroit using Gibbs and David Montgomery.
