It is very early, but the 2026 NFL Draft class looks much better at quarterback compared to what we just saw in 2025. Some of the early favorites include Clemson standout Cade Klubnik, Penn State’s Drew Allar, and Texas breakout Arch Manning. South Carolina signal caller LaNorris Sellers is one that many are high on early on, including myself.
When you take a deep dive into Sellers’ skillset, it’s hard not to get super excited. In his first season as the starter with the Gamecocks, Sellers threw for 2,534 yards and 18 touchdowns, while also rushing for 674 yards and seven more scores. It was the growth during the season that makes everyone very optimistic for the future.
At 6-3 and 242 pounds, Sellers is a really powerful and explosive athlete. He is very strong inside of the pocket, and routinely shrugs rushers off of himself while maintaining his eyes down the field. Sellers also has a huge arm, and throws a very impressive deep ball.
Whether you like it or not, there are a lot of people out there that love player comparisons. When watching Sellers, it’s hard not to see former Minnesota Vikings star Dante Culpepper. Some will think of Culpepper at the end of his career that was out of shape and trending downward, but forget about how physically gifted he was early in his career coming out of UCF.
At 6-4 and 255 pounds, Culpepper was quietly one of the best athletes we have ever seen historically at the quarterback position when coming out of the 1999 NFL Draft. He had run the forty-yard dash in 4.52 seconds while jumping 39 inches in the vertical jump. Culpepper was a tremendous physical with a massive arm.
When you pop on Sellers’ best moments last season, it is hard not to see the skill set that Culpepper brought to the table. It’s a complete wildcard right now who ends up being the first quarterback for the 2026 class, but Sellers has a strong claim in terms of raw talent and athletic upside. Then NFL tends to fall in love with fools, and Sellers has a lot of them.
While Sellers is a dynamic runner, it’s his throwing tools that get people most excited. He has some natural instincts in the pocket, and the game just needs to slow down for him in his second year as a starter. There’s a lot of optimism for the team to make a big jump heading into the 2025 college football season.
