It's more than clear that the Oklahoma Sooners need some help in the tight end room. So, yeah, maybe the experiement with Jaren Kanak works out? Maybe he's actually really good because of how athletic he is? Or maybe it doesn't work out at all.

Maybe, just maybe, the Sooners will end up missing guys like Bauer Sharp and Jake Roberts, as seeing how this room that they brought in for the 2025 season doesn't seem to be very good. Sure, it could be good, and they could end up shocking everyone, but not many are sold on a few guys from Kennesaw State and Tulsa that didn't even put up numbers there, let alone with Oklahoma in the SEC.

Adding John Mateer and Ben Arbuckle to the offense does provide a bit of a wrinkle and safety blanket, though. You have a QB who is a playmaker, and will get the ball to whoever is open, and if no one is, he will run it. Then you have the creative schemer that Arbuckle is, where he will design plays to help the tight ends.

But overall, it's very clear that for the future of this program, the Sooners need some help in the tight end room. Hopefully, they get it, as they are now emerging as one of the teams to land a four-star TE recruit.

Sooners contender for 4-star TE Tyler Ruxer

Tyler Ruxer, a four-star tight end from Heritage Hills High School in Lincoln City, Indiana, is a top prospect in the 2026 class. At 6’4” and 220 pounds, he’s a versatile athlete with speed and size. On3 ranks him as a top-200 national recruit and top-10 tight end, while 247Sports lists him as Indiana’s No. 1 player and No. 23 tight end.

In his junior year, Ruxer had 43 catches for 893 yards and 12 touchdowns, helping Heritage Hills go 14-1 and win the 2024 Class 3A state title. He earned IFCA All-State Wide Receiver honors in 2023 and 2024 and All-Conference recognition.

Ruxer has over 28 Division I offers from schools like Oklahoma, Purdue, Northwestern, Duke, Minnesota, Louisville, Pittsburgh, and West Virginia. He’s scheduled official visits to Oklahoma, Northwestern, Duke, Purdue, and Minnesota, planning to decide in summer 2025.

His film shows he can play in the slot or inline tight end, with skills to beat defenders and block well. As a senior, his recruitment will likely only get crazier, but it's obvious that the Sooners are making a push for him.
