The Pittsburgh Steelers have been busy attempting to add playmakers to their offense.
One of those playmakers would be Miami Dolphins TE Jonnu Smith.
The Steelers were reportedly in, then out, and now back in on Jonnu Smith.
And following an injury to one of their pass catchers, it makes a lot of sense…
Steelers' lose Donald Parham Jr. to Achilles injury
Sources: Steelers tight end Donald Parham Jr. suffered a torn Achilles during today’s OTAs that now is likely to end his 2025 season. A brutal injury.
– Adam Schefter, ESPN
The injury is a blow to the Steelers' TE room, but the team still has Darnell Washington, who has lost 10-15 pounds in an effort to be more of a threat in the passing game, on top of Connor Heyward, and of course, Freiermuth at the top.
So the report that the Steelers are back in on Jonnu Smith makes sense, but it's not exactly an apples to apples comparsion.
Jonnu Smith is a Pro Bowl TE. He will push Muth for snaps if he is acquired. Parham is a sold player, but he would have to beat out Washington and Heyward for a spot in the pass-catching rotation.
Back in it: the Steelers renewed conversations today with Dolphins TE Jonnu Smith, who is seeking a new contract. The trade between the Steelers and Dolphins is still alive, per source.

But according to Smith's agent, Miami is the place he wants to be…
"Here's what I will say on behalf of my client: Jonnu [Smith] would definitely like to stay in Miami. That's his first choice," Drew Rosenhaus told the Miami Herald. "This is where he lives in the offseason. He had a record-breaking season last year. It was the best season ever for a Miami Dolphin tight end. … He broke the team record for receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns for a tight end and was the team's single Pro Bowl player. He's an incredibly valuable part of this team. … He went to college at FIU. His dream team is the Dolphins."
