The Michigan Wolverines are intensifying their recruiting efforts for 2026 four-star linebacker Brayden Rouse, a top-100 prospect from Cornelius, North Carolina. Rouse has emerged as a priority target for head coach Sherrone Moore and his staff.

Despite stiff competition from SEC powerhouses Alabama, Tennessee, and Texas, Michigan is making significant strides in showcasing why Ann Arbor could be the ideal destination for the 6-foot-2, 215-pound standout.

Rouse’s recent official visit to Michigan left a strong impression, with the Wolverines emphasizing their vision for his role both on the field and within their program’s culture.

Rouse, ranked as the No. 70 overall prospect and No. 7 linebacker in the 2026 class by the On3 Industry Ranking, has been a focal point for Michigan’s recruiting strategy.

During his visit, the Wolverines’ coaching staff, led by linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary, highlighted how Rouse’s versatile skill set aligns perfectly with their defensive scheme. “The staff in Ann Arbor feels Brayden is a perfect fit on and off the field,” a source close to the program noted, underscoring the belief that Rouse’s athleticism and character make him an ideal addition to the team.

Jean-Mary, who previously coached at Tennessee, detailed how Rouse could thrive as a three-down linebacker, capable of impacting the game in coverage, run defense, and as a pass rusher.

The visit itself was a testament to Michigan’s commitment to building a personal connection with Rouse. “Michigan continues to impress me,” Rouse told On3’s Chad Simmons, reflecting on the warm reception he received. He spent significant time with Jean-Mary and head coach Sherrone Moore, who outlined a clear path for his development.

“I got to learn more about what they want to do with me as a player,” Rouse shared, noting the staff’s emphasis on his potential to become a cornerstone of the Wolverines’ defense. Beyond the football field, Michigan’s academic prestige and the opportunity to study at the renowned Ross School of Business resonated with Rouse, who values the balance between athletics and education.

Michigan’s pitch stood out for its focus on family and community, a theme that has consistently struck a chord with Rouse.

“The overall vibe was great,” he said, describing the genuine care and attention he felt from the coaching staff and players. This sense of belonging is critical as Michigan competes against SEC heavyweights, each offering their own allure.

Alabama, Tennessee, and Texas have all hosted Rouse for visits, with Alabama and Texas standing out as particularly strong contenders. However, Michigan’s ability to create a home-like atmosphere and present a tailored plan for his future has kept the Wolverines firmly in the race.

The Wolverines’ recruiting momentum is further bolstered by their recent success on the trail, with commitments from elite prospects like quarterback Brady Smigiel and tight end Matt Ludwig.

Landing Rouse would be a significant coup, signaling Michigan’s ability to go toe-to-toe with SEC programs for top talent outside their traditional recruiting footprint. As Rouse weighs his options, he remains open to all four schools but acknowledged Michigan’s rising stock. “I’m still considering everything, but Michigan definitely made a big impact,” he said.

With additional visits planned and a decision timeline still fluid, Rouse’s recruitment remains a high-stakes battle. Michigan’s coaching staff is banking on their holistic approach—blending elite football development, academic excellence, and a tight-knit team culture—to sway the coveted linebacker.

If the Wolverines can maintain their momentum, they may just secure a commitment from Brayden Rouse, proving that Ann Arbor’s pull can rival the SEC’s brightest stars.
