It is an important year ahead for Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers. Around college football, there is a bit of angst and unknown about some quarterback rooms. For LSU, that's not the case. Garrett Nussmeier is the starter – and a potential future first-round pick in the NFL Draft, too.

Ahead of a massive season, Nussmeier has been taking in the Manning Passing Academy. A former NFL offensive play-caller has been spending time with the Bayou Bengals starter and other players around CFB in attendance.

Jon Gruden meets up with Garrett Nussmeier

The 2003 Super Bowl champion head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers attended the Manning Passing Academy recently, showing off some pictures with a plethora of college signal-callers. LSU's QB was among those who spent time with the long-time NFL offensive mind.

Gruden has recently worked out and collaborated with multiple young quarterbacks. Hunter Dekkers, an undrafted free agent who signed with the New Orleans Saints, was endorsed by the former HC after he worked with him earlier in the offseason.

For Nussmeier, it's probably nice for him to have a relationship with Gruden, who has been around plenty of top-notch pro quarterbacks over the course of his coaching career.

Nussmeier caught some attention at the Academy for an incredibly impressive throw this weekend, too. He certainly knows how to show off his arm talent

LSU's success in 2025 hinges on the QB

This is no secret for the Tigers. As Nussmeier goes at QB, the offensive unit will go. He has upgrades across the board at wide receiver, with multiple impactful transfers joining the roster at that spot. At tight end, LSU is having to replace Mason Taylor, but they still have capable pieces there, too.

Regardless, Nussmeier is a Heisman Trophy candidate for a reason. The high-flying abilities of his arm and the speed around him should make for an exciting offense as a whole.

The Tigers are +125 to make the College Football Playoff via DraftKings Sportsbook. Depending on the QB's production, those odds may look like quite mislead by the middle of the season. Only time will tell.
