It's obvious that T.J. Watt is very unhappy.

While he awaits a new deal, he's sat back and watched the Steelers trade for and pay a WR who has yet to don Black and Gold, and trade and give a raise to a corner and TE who also have no sweat equity with the team

That has caused a stir within Watt's camp, and he's apparently open to everything at this point…

T.J. Watt open to a trade?

Yes, the Steelers reportedly have “no intention” to trade him. More often than not, the use of that two-word phrase becomes a precursor to a deal.

With Watt, it’s too early to tell what will happen. No one should be surprised by any outcome.

The problem is that the two sides are, we’re told, nowhere close on a new deal. Watt, one of the very best defensive players is the game, is ready for any outcome and not afraid to push the issue.

The next step in this whole process is one that no one in Pittsburgh wants to see. That would be Watt requesting a trade from the Steelers. We already know that teams are calling, and Omar Khan's phone is expected to only get hotter.

But the tipping point, and what Watt may have to do given where things stand in these negotiations, is to demand a trade. Not that Watt should be taking anything out of the Cleveland Browns and Myles Garrett playbook, but it wasn't too far after Garrett requested a trade that he received a contract which paid him more than any non-QB in the league.

That's by all accounts, what Watt is seeking.

"In recent weeks, multiple teams have been discussing whether they can trade for Steelers’ standout T.J. Watt, who skipped the team’s most recent minicamp, said Adam Schefter on Monday. "Pittsburgh hasn’t shown any willingness to deal Watt so far, but he’s unhappy with his contractual situation and sources believe outside team interest is likely to increase given today’s trade. Steelers have been adamant they want T.J. Watt to finish his career in Pittsburgh.”
