Sherrone Moore and his Michigan Wolverines already put together a wild month of June winning a grand total of 11 recruiting commitments from top talents all around the country. There was some worry for a bit that Michigan's recruiting may be a bit behind but that doubt is entirely gone at this point.

Now, they've been predicted to win yet another top four star recruit immediately following July 4th, which should lock in their top 10 2026 class status.

Four star CB recruit Dorian Barney predicted to commit to Michigan Wolverines

Four star cornerback Dorian Barney has been a hot recruiting commodity for over two years now. He debuted as a top 50 recruit in the nation according to multiple recruiting sites back in 2023 and has garnered a whopping 50 scholarship offers throughout his high school journey.

This perfect prototype cornerback specimen measures in at 6'1", 180 pounds, and uses his long arms to win with physicality as he picks off passes and shuts down opposing wide receivers. He's really quite similar to Will Johnson in both stature and style.

As of this week Dorian Barney is set to commit July 5th, and many recruiting experts around the country continue to predict that he will be selecting Michigan as his future college football home (as you can see in the post below).

Michigan was already expected by many to win Barney's commitment, but now both Josh Henschke (Maize & Blue) and Sean Fitz (who covers Penn State for SI) have predicted it as well. The evidence continues to pile up in the Wolverines' favor following his final official visit with Michigan near the end of June.

Barney had been committed to Alabama until late last fall, but once he decommitted the rest of the SEC and a few other national powerhouse brands went hard after him once again. Despite Michigan joining the fold rather late (last summer), it's clear their success in sending defensive back talent to the NFL (11 CBs and safeties drafted since 2017) helped lock in this likely commitment.

How Dorian Barney could fit with Michigan Wolverines defensive secondary

After losing multiple safeties and cornerbacks to this spring's 2025 NFL Draft and graduation it was clear that Michigan needed to revamp their secondary, so Sherrone Moore and his staff added three transfers on top of four high pedigree true freshman defensive backs. However, two of those three transfers, long-time veteran safety Rod Moore, top outside corner Jyaire Hill, and even perhaps nickel Zeke Berry could be gone after this next season.

What does that mean? There's a good chance that Dorian Barney may land on campus as a true freshman and be thrust into action as one of Michigan's starting outside cornerbacks if he does indeed commit here soon.

Sherrone Moore and his staff have already added four stars Brody Jennings (CB) and Andre Clarke Jr. (S) to their 2026 recruiting class, but Barney projects to be better than both. If he does end up committing Barney could prove to be one of the most important recruits in the entire class and would certainly solidify Michigan's top 10 ranking in the 2026 cycle.
