Head coach Marcus Freeman and the Notre Dame program is riding a ton of momentum following their biggest recruiting weekend of the year. There is an expectation that there could be a long list of commitments coming over the next few weeks. That includes at tight end.

Following the visit, it was announced that 2026 Toledo (Ohio) Central Catholic pass catcher Preston Fryzel will be making his commitment on June 23rd. Fryzel will be selecting between the Fighting Irish, Iowa, and Miami.

Heading into that announcement, Notre Dame is the unquestioned front runner to land Fryzel. At this point, it would be surprising to see him select someone other than the Fighting Irish, especially with the impact they made during the recent official visit. Things have been trending in a great direction, and fast.

Fryzel is considered to be a three-star recruit by every major recruiting platform, which is a bit puzzling based on talent. He is currently rated as the No. 704 overall player, No. 39 tight end, and No. 29 player in the state of Ohio for the 2026 recruiting class according to the 247Sports Composite ranking. The On3 Industry ranking has Fryzel ranked as the No. 46 tight end in the class.

Even with those lower rankings, Fryzel has been pursued by a long list of programs. Some of the top offers Fryzel currently holds include the Fighting Irish, Miami, Auburn, Iowa, Indiana, Louisville, Kentucky, UNC, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Rutgers, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Duke, Maryland, Arizona, West Virginia, Northwestern, Wake Forest, and Purdue among several others.

Fryzel is coming off of a dynamic season for Central Catholic. The 6-4, 220-pound pass catcher managed to haul in 43 receptions for 807 pounds and 10 touchdowns. He averaged a stellar 18.7 yards per reception, an incredible number for a tight end.

Fryzel was also joined by Waukee (Iowa) High School tight end Evan Jacobson in South Bend during the visit. The Irish are also in a very good spot with Jacobson, and I like them for both players right now. It would be a very good two-man haul if they close out.
