The Oklahoma Sooners didn't finish their basketball season the way they would have liked, but it's great to look back and be able to hang your hat on the development of the players they had, one of those being Jeremiah Fears.

Fears was a freshman last season, but you wouldn't have known that because of how he played. He was easily the best player on the team, and a guy that everyone saw could play at a level above the one he just played at. After one year of college basketball, he entered the 2025 NBA Draft, and everyone knew this kid would be drafted within the top 15.

Fears went No. 7 overall, eight picks shy of coming back to the Oklahoma City metro area, as the NBA Champion OKC Thunder picked at No. 15. But, instead, he went higher, which is good for him in terms of what his rookie contract will look like.

But getting drafted to the Pelicans was not what anyone asked for. In fact, that may be one of the worst situations he could have been put in.

"That organization's cursed," Dyson Daniels, a former Pelicans guard, said. "Every year there's something new. I'm happy I'm not there anymore. The curse, man. I had like four or five ankle injuries down there as well. There's something down in that water down there or something. They have hamstrings. They have knees. They got concussions and stuff as well. They get everything down there. I don't know what it is. Playing hard I guess?"

Daniels was traded to the Atlanta Hawks and has since been one of the best defensive players in the NBA. When he was with the Pelicans, I'm not sure it was the same situation. And that goes for a ton of players, not just him. Zion Williamson was drafted by the Pelicans, and we all know how his career has gone with both injuries and issues with his physique.

Now, this isn't to say that Fears won't be successful; he can be. But man, he isn't being put in a great situation.

However, because of their roster, Fearrs will have a shot to have a big role in his rookie season. Let's just pray he doesn't get hurt.
