Oklahoma Sooners get a mixed bag of news regarding their injury report heading into Week 2 vs. the Michigan Wolverines
The Oklahoma Sooners are dealing with injuries all over the offensive line, and it’s not coming at a good time. Then again, is it ever a good time?
The Oklahoma Sooners are set to play the Michigan Wolverines this Saturday. They are going to have an extra day of rest/preparation after beating UTEP on Friday. So, they should have an advantage. And they need it, because they have some injuries to some important players.
Sooners have injuries to three offensive linemen entering Week 2
The Sooners could enter Week 2 without starting center Jake Maikkula, starting left tackle Michael Fasusi, and starting guard Ryan Fodje.
“We’ll get them going this week,” Venables said on his coaches show regarding Maikkula and Fodje.
Now, that doesn’t mean they will both be available to play every snap on Saturday against the Wolverines. In fact, that doesn’t mean they will be able to play at all. I’m reading this as those guys are going to start getting going in practice. That doesn’t always mean they are ready for the games. Or, maybe in this case it does.
George Stoia of SoonerScoop reports that starting left tackle Michael Fasusi’s availability is much more up in the air. Stoia also reported Fasusi was very limited in Monday’s practice. Fasusi relentlessly battled a shoulder injury during fall camp. However, he actually returned to practice two weeks before the season opener.
On Friday against UTEP, it was clear he was no longer playing after a while. There’s a clip of him blocking using just one arm. It’s obvious that after that, he wasn’t going to play, as he played only 17 snaps. This became obvious even after Venables told the media that Fasusi was fine and nothing was wrong.
Fodje played left tackle for a good amount of fall camp while Fasusi recovered from his shoulder injury, so he could be the next man up there on that left side. The Sooners have to be confident at least a bit in Fodje, who played amazingly last season as a true freshman. OU is hopeful Fasusi will miss little to no time.
