The legal negotiation window of the NFL free agency officially kicks off on Monday, March 10, at noon ET, and that's when the chaos begins.
However, players cannot officially sign with new teams until after 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 12, the start of the new league year.
The Eagles have already made one of their biggest free agency moves, which was locking down All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun. The Eagles re-signed Baun to a three-year, $51 million contract last Wednesday, making him one of the highest-paid linebackers in the NFL. The deal also includes $34 million guaranteed and another $1.5 million in incentives.
Re-signing Baun is just one of the many chess moves the Eagles and general manager Howie Roseman will be making over the next several days.
Here are three other projected moves the Birds will make in free agency.
Eagles Move on From DT Milton Williams
When the Dallas Cowboys signed defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa to a four-year, $80 million deal last week, that automatically made it a lot harder for the Eagles to keep Milton Williams in Philly.
It's unfortunate because Williams appears to be just getting started after a season full of career highs in sacks (5) and QB pressures (40). He also logged two additional sacks in the Eagles’ Super Bowl win over the Kansas City Chiefs.
Williams will certainly be missed in Philly, but I don't doubt the Eagles will find an affordable replacement.
DE Josh Sweat Joins Milton Williams on the Open Market
And that brings us to Josh Sweat, another star Eagles defender who is hitting the open market this week.
Sweat registered 41 tackles (27 solo), a team-leading eight sacks, and two pass defenses across 16 games in 2024. He added 2.5 more sacks in the Eagles' Super Bowl LIX win and arguably should have been named MVP.
The Eagles restructured Sweat's deal last off-season, which meant he was automatically due for a pay increase this year. And after a solid season as the team's sack monster, that payday is going to look even higher than expected.
Eagles Re-Sign CB Isaiah Rodgers
The Eagles moved on from veteran star cornerback Darius Slay last week, which leaves some question marks for them at the outside cornerback position.
While playing very limited snaps (36%) on defense, Rodgers finished the regular season logging 26 total tackles, a fumble recovery, one blocked kick, and four passes defended. Then, during the Eagles' playoff run, Rodgers racked up an additional six tackles and one fumble recovery and defended three passes, including one off Patrick Mahomes.
For the right price, Rodgers makes a lot of sense for the Eagles to keep around so Cooper DeJean can continue to handle his slot duties.
Howie Roseman and Eagles are going to hate the latest Myles Garrett news
The Philadelphia Eagles and general manager Howie Roseman are not going to like the latest Myles Garrett news update. It was reported just a few days ago that the Eagles had a very "real" interest in adding Garrett to their roster, but that won't be happening after all. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Cleveland […]
