The Pittsburgh Steelers have been in the business of acquiring, more so than releasing to kick off 2025 NFL free agency.
But the latter comes with the territory this time of year, even when armed with the cash that the Steelers have.
And that meant saying goodbye to defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobi for the Steelers…

Ogunjobi has appeared in 124 regular-season games, starting 108, in his eight seasons in the NFL, including the last three years with the Steelers. He has 361 tackles, including 199 solo stops, 79 quarterback hits, 27.5 sacks, 56 tackles for a loss, three passes defensed, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. In his three seasons in Pittsburgh he appeared in 48 games, with 45 starts, and recorded 132 tackles, including 62 solo stops, 26 quarterback hits, six sacks, 15 tackles for loss, two passes defensed, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.
Ogunjobi has been a standout in the community and was the Steelers nominee for the 2024 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award.

The move comes as no surprise, and Ogunjobi likely knew a fresh start was on the horizon. Not only did he play through the injury or miss time last year, but the soon-to-be 31-year-old saves the Steelers $7m against their 2025 cap, a number that could help in their ongoing pursuit of a starting QB.
While a lot of talk has surrounded skill positions or QBs at 21 for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the truth is, they are far more likely to take a defensive lineman in round one of the NFL Draft than they are a WR or RB. Pittsburgh might be adapting to the times in terms of free agency and trades, but they have a clear roster building process.
Right or wrong, the team still believes that you win championships from the inside out and that you do so by building through the draft. The Senior Bowl was an up close and personal look at that process, as nearly the entire brass was there to witness defensive line drills, up close and personal, with Mike Tomlin going as far as to befriend some big-name prospects.
So with Larry O on his way out, his replacement will be found in short order.
