Well, the Dallas Cowboys are on the board with two expected outside free agency additions.

They might not be what fans were hoping for, but RB Javonte Williams and OL Rob Jones are on the team. The players have agreed to terms but the contracts can't be executed until the new league year on Wednesday.

While Williams' arrival means the Cowboys are unlikely to bring back Rico Dowdle as they rebuild the RB room from scratch, Jones' is much more interesting as it foreshadows future competition at one specific spot: Right guard.

Jones will be signed to a one-year deal worth up to $4.75 million and comes with glowing reviews from those who know him from his time in the Miami Dolphins. His play recently took a hit due to injury.

Jones has played both guard spots and even some right tackle in the past but considering the Cowboys are set at left guard with All-Pro Tyler Smith, the veteran will have to battle Brock Hoffman for the job that once belonged to Zack Martin, who retired last week.

Though Hoffman has been the projected starter considering he did well replacing Martin in 2024, there was speculation about potential competition should the Cowboys draft a lineman in the first round of April's draft.

Now, they ensure competition will happen no matter what goes down later in the year. Jones will have a tough time beating out Hoffman though, as the younger player helped the Cowboys establish a consistent run game in the second half of last season. His nasty demeanor in the trenches went a long way in making it possible.

But everyone in football knows competition can be just what the doctor ordered when it comes to players who are still developing and that is very much Hoffman's case. Overall, it's a positive signing by itself but for now, expect Jones to be depth and not a starter.
