INDIANAPOLIS – Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter spoke to the media from the NFL Scouting Combine on Wednesday morning. Carter did not shy away from telling the media in attendance how he truly feels about the Tennessee Titans and the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

There is no doubt in Carter's mind that he should be selected first overall. Not only does he believe he is the best player in the draft, he believes the impact of an edge rusher is undervalued around the league.

"I feel like you definitely need a franchise edge rusher. If you look at all the great teams that have won Super Bowls, you have that one standout defensive player. I feel like I'm that," said Carter in his media session. “Defensive players impact the game just as much as the quarterback.”

Von Miller was the first guy to pop into Carter's mind when asked what a "franchise edge rusher" is supposed to look like. Miller, Micah Parsons, and T.J. Watt are all players that Carter likes to model his game after.

Apart from advocating for his own abilities and leadership qualities, I was impressed by Carter's confidence and honesty at the podium. Some players would get up there and say "I'm more worried about fit than where I'm selected" or "any team that tales me, I'll be honored to go there." Not Carter. He wanted to go first overall. He wants to be a Tennessee Titan and he's not afraid to say it.

"It's very important to me [to go number one overall]. That's one of the goals I made before the season. It's something that I always talk about, it's what I work for, and I feel like I'm getting close to that. I just gotta keep working, keep putting effort in, and I'll accomplish my dream," said Carter.

"I feel like it's very realistic. I'm the best player in the country and the best player should be selected number one"…"I’m impressed with the [Titans] coaches. I think they’re impressed with me. They have the number one pick. I want to be the number one pick.”

With the news breaking on Wednesday morning that the Titans are allowing veteran edge rusher Harold Landry III to seek a trade, Tennessee's need for an edge talent will be even more pronounced. Even though Landry' contributions are limited at this stage in his career, he's still a rotational piece at a position of need.

I think the Titans would be very happy to come away from the 2025 NFL Draft with Abdul Carter.
