The Kansas City Chiefs have a clear type emerging at the edge rusher position for the 2025 NFL draft.
While they've had formal meetings at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine with some top edge rusher prospects, they've also shown some interest in a pair of high-upside, raw-talent types at All-Star games just last month. With some pass-rush juice lacking opposite George Karlaftis, it makes sense that Chiefs GM Brett Veach is digging for potential diamonds in the rough at the edge rusher position to add to their rotation in 2025.
Here's a look at two of the edge rusher prospects they've met with so far in the pre-draft process. . .
Chiefs met with UCLA EDGE Oluwafemi Oladejo at the Senior Bowl
Oladejo confirmed to reporters on Wednesday that he met with the Chiefs at the Senior Bowl last month.
Oladejo moved from off-ball linebacker at UCLA to the edge rusher position in 2024, and the results were staggering. The 6-foot-3 and 259-pound defender recorded 57 total tackles, including 23 solo stops, with 4.5 sacks, 14 tackles for loss, and two passes batted this year. He's got natural hands for the position, which is apparent when you turn on the tape and see him dispatch offensive tackles with relative ease.
Even defending the run, he looks more like someone who has been playing the position for his entire career, not just a single season in 2024. That's why a team like the Chiefs could bank on his upside as early as Day 2 of the 2025 NFL draft.
Chiefs met with Boise State EDGE Ahmed Hassanein at the East-West Shrine Bowl
Hassanein confirmed at the combine that he met with the Chiefs at the Shrine Bowl last month.
Weighing in at 6-foot-2, 267 pounds with 32 1/4th-inch arms, Hassanein is another raw edge rusher prospect with a ton of upside at the next level. After beginning his life in Egypt, Hassanein fell in love with football in part thanks to his older brother. He began playing the game in high school six years ago before knowing how to speak English fully.
There's a lot to like about what Hassanein already brings in terms of pass-rush toolbox and counters, but he can really take the next step in the NFL. Over the past two seasons, he was perhaps the most exciting and productive player on the Broncos roster outside of RB Ahston Jeanty. He recorded 101 total tackles, 33 tackles for loss, 22 sacks, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in that span.
