QB prospect Cam Ward follows in the footsteps of Shedeur Sanders at 2025 NFL Scouting Combine and nobody should be surprised
Cam Ward is doing the same thing Shedeur Sanders did.
INDIANAPOLIS – During his media availability at the NFL Combine on Friday, quarterback prospect Cam Ward revealed that he would not be throwing in front of teams over the weekend.
"Me throwing here is not going to move me in no type of way. I've just decided to throw at my Pro Day to the best receiving corps in the country," Ward said.
Ward's announcement comes just under a week after Colorado's Shedeur Sanders made the same decision. It should not come as a surprise that the top two quarterbacks opted out.

While it may be frustrating for the media and fans in attendance or for teams who are hoping to get an up close look at an intriguing prospect, this is now the standard. Top quarterback prospects just don't have any incentive to do it.
In 2024, Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and Drake Maye all opted to not throw at the combine. That opened the door for Bo Nix, J.J. McCarthy, and Michael Penix Jr. to turn some heads and prove themselves worthy of going in the first round. It was a productive week for all three of them, but Williams, Daniels, and Maye still came off the board first on draft night.
No matter what Sanders and Ward do, they're going to be the first two quarterbacks selected.
Just make sure that you're keeping the same energy. If you ripped Sanders when he announced he wouldn't throw, you should be just as critical of Ward. But if I'm being honest, neither QB should be viewed any differently because of this and it won't effect the way teams evaluate them.
