The Seattle Seahawks are signing wide receiver Cooper Kupp to a three-year, $45 million contract, per a report from NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.
Kupp took to social media to post of picture of himself in a Seahawks uniform with the caption, "Washington back across my chest. Let's go!!!!!"
Kupp returns home to the state he was born and raised in, and played his college ball (Eastern Washington). His $15 million per year average is short of the $20 million he was set to make with the Los Angeles Rams this year before being released, but it's still a very good deal considering he's missed 18 games over the past three seasons.
Being absent for that many games due to injuries ultimately led the Rams to move on from Kupp, but when healthy he has remained productive. He was on pace to eclipse 1,000 receiving yards in each of the last three years had he not missed time. Kupp had one of the best seasons a WR has had in recent memory in 2021, recording a whopping 145 receptions for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns.
That earned him Offensive Player of the Year honors for that year. A third-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by Los Angeles, Kupp quickly became one of the most lethal route runners in the league. If he can conquer his injury woes and produce even half of his 2021 statistics, this will be a worthwhile signing for Seattle.
The Seahawks' WR corpse is beginning to round into shape. They, of course, already have Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who proved last season that he has what it takes to be the No. 1 guy. Seattle also signed veteran WR Marques Valdes-Scantling on Wednesday, who is still a legitimate deep threat.
These pass catchers will be thrown to by new quarterback Sam Darnold, who signed a three-year, $100.5 million deal with Seattle earlier this week. The Seahawks could honestly use another playmaker on offense, whether it's a WR or tight end. With five picks in the 2025 NFL Draft and 10 overall, they'll have options.
