The Michigan Wolverines and head coach Sherrone Moore have been pushing hard this spring on the recruiting trail to make sure they follow up this year's strong class with another in 2026. The staff knows they need to continue building around five star quarterback Bryce Underwood, so the team has been locking in visits with elite offensive talent all spring long.

Now they have what should be one of their most important visits of the entire offseason coming up as they're hoping to officially flip a star talent from a national rival. Who is the player they're hosting? And why is he so important? Let's dive in.

Javian Osborne, Four Star Running Back Recruit

As we discussed here earlier this spring, Michigan was gaining momentum with former Texas Longhorns running back commit, Javian Osborne. He decommitted from Texas late last fall, then flat out canceled an official visit with them following a running back coach change. However, since that time Osborne has added back his official with Texas and now he's heading to six different schools this spring.

The good news? Michigan is one of them (March 28th) and they're still hosting him on his final official visit of the recruiting cycle in June too.

After Osborne visits in March, that will make it three times that he's seen Michigan since last fall. That's good for the most in-person contacts with the four star phenom among all schools alongside Texas. And again, he's already decommitted from the Longhorns.

On top of the fact that Osborne has already turned down Texas once, the Longhorns have since shifted their gaze heavily to a reclassified four star running back in Ezavier Crowell and a Top 50 talent in KJ Edwards. Both running backs have Texas in their Top 5 as we head down the stretch of 2026 recruiting.

Michigan, on the other hand, has been extremely and nearly solely focused on landing Javian Osborne outside of just one other running back in the class for the most part (Savion Hiter).

Why all the focus on Osborne?

For starters, he posted a 2200 rushing yard season as a sophomore in high school as one of the most productive players in the entire nation. He runs in the 10.7s in the 100 meter. Plus, his agility and burst are perhaps the best in the entire 2026 running back recruiting class.

Michigan just lost both Donovan Edwards and Kalel Mullings to the NFL Draft. And while the team still has impressive rising sophomore Jordan Marshall likely locked in for 2026 and transfer talent Justice Haynes (for at least 2025), they'll certainly need another running back like Osborne who possesses excellent contact balance and home run playmaking speed here soon. Let's hope Sherrone Moore can close the deal as they host him both on March 28th and this summer.
