Steelers' latest mock draft has them repeating a round-one quarterback mistake that they still haven't gotten over

A bad QB class propped him up, and while the Steelers did him no favors, the team shipped him to Philadelphia last year, who just last week, traded him back to the AFC North.

Three teams in as many years of NFL experience usually does not represent success at the QB position, except the Pittsburgh Steelers just might do it all over again…

Steelers Three-Round Mock Draft

Round 1, No. 21 overall: Jaxson Dart, QB Ole Miss

While there are few similarities in the games of Jaxson Dart and Kenny Pickett, their projection into the league, and in this case, onto the Steelers have plenty of parallels. Those who critique Dart point to no dominant physical trait, an inability to show up in big games, and a beneficiary of being in a weak QB class.

It just so happens that the Steelers are almost in the same draft position, and state of the franchise as when Pickett went in the first round nearly three years ago, with Dart potentially following suit.

Round 3, No. 83 overall: Deone Walker, DL Kentucky

There was a time when Deone Walker was mentioned among potential first-round prospects, but a somewhat lackluster 2024 season has him falling in terms of average draft position.

However, when you realize Walker was playing all of last year with a broken back, yes a broken back, and still earned All-SEC second team honors, you think differently upon his "down year."

A freakish human being at over 6-7 and 330 pounds, with Larry Ogunjobi officially on his way out of town, Walker would fit like a glove between Keeanu Benton and Cam Heyward.

Round 4, 123 overall: DJ Giddens, RB Kansas State

The Steelers have to attack the RB position in the NFL draft. That much was solidified when Najee Harris left for the Los Angeles Chargers last week. Well, it just so happens that this is one of the deepest running back classes in years, and Giddens, could truly be a day one starter despite going in the fourth round of this mock.

The Steelers typically want a lot of boxes checked from their lead back. At over 6-0, north of 210 pounds with excellent vision, ball carrying and 4.43 speed, Giddens checks them and then some.
