The last few days in the NFL world have been absolutely insane with the amount of trades, and trade requests, we've seen go down around the league.
The Chicago Bears were part of the insanity, landing two trades to acquire some top offensive guard upgrades prior to the start of free agency.
Those aggressive moves proved the Bears are willing to do what it takes to address their major needs before having to bring in outside free agents. And once they use free agency to fill in the other needs on the roster, the team will be sitting pretty with the 10th overall pick in April's draft.
Saying the Bears can address all those pressing needs before April, that opens up the team's draft board in a big way to draft the best player available, regardless of position.
The most popular connection lately has been Boise State running back and Heisman Finalist Ashton Jeanty, and for good reason. The Bears already met once with the top RB prospect at the 2025 Scouting Combine and are expected to meet with Jeanty again on a Top-30 visit in the coming days, one of the two confirmed teams to do so.
The Bears haven't been shy about their interest in adding a talent like Jeanty to Ben Johnson's offense, but those plans might be ruined after the latest blockbuster trade made by the other team keeping tabs on Jeanty.
Raiders Trade For Geno Smith Opens Up Possibility Of Drafting Ashton Jeanty
Late on Friday, the Las Vegas Raiders made a stunning trade with the Seattle Seahawks, landing quarterback Geno Smith to pair him back up with head coach Pete Carroll.
The Raiders were involved in the pursuit of multiple different quarterbacks, including Matthew Stafford, but many wondered if the Raiders would wait it out and see if one of the top two quarterbacks in the draft fall to them with the 6th overall pick.
Instead of risking that possibility blowing up in their face, the Raiders took the proactive approach by going out and landing an established veteran.
This decision allows the Raiders to open up their own draft board in the first-round, although taking one of the two quarterbacks is still on the table if one falls to their pick. Regardless, the Raiders next order of business needs to be surrounding Geno Smith with talent on offense.
One way to do so would be by drafting a top offensive lineman such as Will Campbell or Armand Membou. Or, the Raiders can finally overhaul their run game with a top talent in Ashton Jeanty.
Last season, the Raiders ranked dead last with 1,357 rushing yards and still don't have a clear starting running back on the roster. After finding their quarterback for the near future, this team needs to add someone like Jeanty to the backfield.
Which, in turn, absolutely ruins the Bears ideal plan if Jeanty is off the board by 10. Now, the Bears could easy change course and select a top offensive lineman or pass rusher with that first-round pick. But everyone seems to be getting the sense that the Bears are gearing up for the possibility of landing Jeanty. We'll see what happens.
