Williamson County has declined to press charges against Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy. The Williamson County District Attorney, Shawn Dick, told the Austin American-Statesman on Saturday evening that they would not proceed with charges in this case after speaking to multiple witnesses.

“After further investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and further discussion with a third-party witness, Mr. Worthy and his attorneys, this case is being declined at this time pending completion of the investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff's Office. Mr. Worthy and his lawyers are fully cooperating with this investigation. We will continue to evaluate the case. As is our practice with all declines, should you develop additional information indicative of probable cause in this case, our office will consider that information and may present the case at that time to a Williamson County Grand Jury.”

Worthy was arrested on Friday night in Williamson County, Texas, which is just north of Austin, Texas, where Worthy attended the University of Texas. The police report shows that Worthy was booked on a charge of assault against a family or household member by impeding their breathing or circulation. He was being held without bond.

However, Worthy's court listing has officially been updated to dismissed/declined.

Had they decided to proceed with the case, ESPN's Adam Teicher reported that in Texas, "impeding a family member's breathing or circulation is a third-degree felony and punishable by two to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine."

His lawyer released a statement earlier in the day, denying all allegations.

"We are aware of the allegation that led to Mr. Worthy's arrest. We are working with law enforcement in Williamson County to ensure they have the benefit of the totality of circumstances that led to this allegation.

The complainant was recently asked to vacate Mr. Worthy's residence upon discovery of her infidelity. She has refused to do so and made a number of extortive efforts prior to resorting to this baseless allegation against Mr. Worthy.

We will continue to cooperate with the Williamson County authorities as we have full faith that their thorough investigation will support Mr. Worthy's innocence," Worthy's attorneys, Sam Bassett and Chip Lewis, wrote.

Worthy was selected by the Chiefs in the first round with the 28th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, he appeared in all 17 regular season games, finishing with 59 passes for 638 receiving yards, six receiving touchdowns, 104 rushing yards on 20 carries, and three rushing touchdowns.

In the playoffs, he added an additional 19 receptions for 287 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns, along with three carries for eight yards.
