Florida State Seminoles have a shot to show a top 30 player in the 2026 class why he should play at FSU

The Florida State Seminoles had their worst year since the 1970s last season, and that was largely because both sides of the ball were pretty bad. But, being a Power Five school, you have to have a good offense no matter what. They have been recruiting both sides of the ball pretty well, but the offensive side of the ball has some guys with legit NFL size.
One of those just declared that he has huge interest in Florida State, that way he can stay in state. If the Seminoles were to land him, they could have another Johnny Wilson on their hands.
Noles and 2026 WR Calvin Russell have mutual interest
Calvin Russell is a four-star wide receiver in the 2026 class from Northwestern High School in Miami, Florida. He’s 6’5”, 195 pounds, and a tough matchup for defenders due to his size and athleticism. As a junior, Rivals ranks him No. 4 among wide receivers and No. 33 overall in his class, putting him among the nation’s top prospects. However, On3 and 247 Sports have him under the top 30 nationally.
Before his sophomore year, Russell switched from quarterback to wide receiver under coach Teddy Bridgewater, a former NFL player for the Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings, and Denver Broncos as well as a few other teams.
The change paid off—in 2024, he had 39 catches, 704 yards, and 13 touchdowns, helping Northwestern win a state championship. He excels at grabbing contested passes, leaping for balls, and using his speed to break away. He’s also a strong basketball player, averaging 18.8 points per game as a freshman.
Over 50 colleges have offered him scholarships, including Michigan, Miami, LSU, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Oregon, Auburn, Syracuse, USC, and North Carolina. In March, he narrowed it down to 12 schools. He’s earned a 2025 Navy All-American nod and a spot in the 2026 Under Armour All-America game. Russell’s size and skills make him a major recruiting target with a bright future.
He has recently revealed that Florida State is a school he would like to take a visit to this summer.
