Florida State had an uncharacteristic season last year, where they finished 2-10, their worst year since the 1970s. And to make matters even worse, they did this just a year after having an undefeated season, that is until they reached their bowl game and sat everyone because they were snubbed out of the College Football Playoffs.

Luckily, even after that season, they are still recruiting well. In fact, their 2026 class is going extremely well, as they currently sit 12th in the country with plenty of opportunities to improve the class, including some this summer with some big time visits.

One of them is one of the best EDGE rushers in the country. And, FSU has a history of producing some good defensive linemen; just ask the Los Angeles Rams.

Florida State Seminoles have official visit with Jaquez Wilkes

Jaquez Wilkes is one of the top high school football players in the country from Wadley High School in Wadley, Alabama, in the class of 2026. He’s a four-star EDGE rusher, known for his size at 6-foot-4, 220 pounds, his speed, and ability to play multiple positions.

Wilkes stands out for his balance, vision, and hustle. He’s a relentless linebacker or edge rusher at the next level, depending on the defense he is in, who chases down plays from sideline to sideline with great speed for his size.

Recruiting sites like On3, 247Sports, and ESPN rate him highly, with On3 ranking him in the top 100 nationally and No. 3 among edge rushers in his class. Most experts see him excelling as a linebacker or edge rusher in college, and in Mike Norvell's system, he could be a huge help on the outside of the defensive line.

Colleges are lining up for him, with offers from big names like Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Oregon. This spring, he’s visiting schools like Miami, Florida State, Texas A&M, Georgia, Auburn, and Alabama. Auburn’s close to home, around 42 miles away, and has been a frontrunner, but Georgia and Tennessee are also in the mix.

But Florida State has a shot, and if the visit goes well, they could really prove to him why he should be a Seminole.
