Dabo Swinney hasn't had Clemson at the top of the ACC over the last few years, but that doesn't mean he hasn't still attracted some of the most talented players in the nation to his program. It appeared at the moment Swinney struck gold by flipping 5-star defensive tackle Amare Adams from South Carolina, and the early returns of spring practice are exciting.

Swinney brought out an unexpected set of comparisons for Adams.

According to Jon Blau of the Post and Courier, Swinney compared Adams to former first-round NFL draft picks Dexter Lawrence and Bryan Bresee.

Bresee and Lawrence entered Clemson as five-star recruits, carrying considerable expectations, making the comparison understandable. However, the question remains: can Adams meet those expectations?

Bresee earned the ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year title in 2020 and was drafted No. 29 overall by New Orleans in 2023, where he's compiled 49 tackles and 12 sacks over his first two seasons.

Lawrence's achievements are on an entirely different scale. He was also named ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2016 and became a First-Team All-American in 2018. The New York Giants picked him No. 17 overall in 2019, and he has since established himself as an All-Pro, even earning his first first-team selection in 2024.

While Adams possesses the potential to reach the same heights as Bresee and Lawrence, the recent commencement of spring practice has added to the pressure he’s already under.

Now, all eyes will be on how this young five-star recruit handles this season's heightened expectations.
