We are less than two months until the 2025 NFL Draft officially kicks off. With free agency this week, we are going to begin gaining a much deeper understanding of team needs, and potential prospect team fits in the 2025 class. Mock drafts will begin becoming clearer and clearer moving forward.
For the Jacksonville Jaguars, they are amidst an interesting offseason. We have already seen head coach Liam Coen and general manager James Gladstone say goodbye to several members of the team for non-financial reasons. This process has been about getting tougher and finding better culture fits.
When you dissect the free agency activity so far, and understand the roster needs still left to fill, it becomes painfully obvious who the Jaguars could be targeting with the No. 5 overall selection. Their top target in that spot, obviously considering if they are available, should be former Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham.
Coming into free agency, there were several needs that Jacksonville needed to address. The team signed former Washington Commander wide receiver Dyami Brown to go along with star pass catcher Brian Thomas Jr., and there isn’t a wide receiver who is good enough to go that high anyway. The Jaguars also have signed multiple offensive linemen and tight ends so far to try and solidify those groups.
On defense, we have also seen Jacksonville add several members to the secondary to try and solidify things around cornerback Tyson Campbell, who hopefully can put together a healthy season. The one position that has been surprisingly quiet is at defensive tackle. It’s doubtful that this team goes into next season with DaVon Hamilton, Masson Smith, and a whole lot of nothing holding down the interior.
If Graham is on the board with that first selection, this should be a “run to the podium” type of situation. Graham has been a dominant force for Michigan the last two seasons, possessing impressive power, flexibility, and explosiveness. He is a potential disruptive force from multiple alignments.
Outside of the productive impact Graham can have, he also brings a swagger and an attitude to the interior of a defense. That’s something the Jaguars need more of. When you consider that there was a push to find more culture fits this offseason, it really makes Graham feel like an even more ideal fit for this team.
